Huntington WV Shooting Today: 5 people injured in three separate shootings overnight in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Five people were taken to the hospital following three separate overnight shooting incidents in Huntington early Saturday, according to police.

Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins said officers first responded to a shooting around 11:39 p.m. at Corbin Park on Vernon Street. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute, and a juvenile male suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A suspect was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

In a second incident at approximately 2:11 a.m., officers heard gunfire near the 800 block of 7th Avenue and found a male victim with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Police say the shooting followed a verbal and physical altercation, and a suspect has been identified and charged.

While investigating that scene, officers heard additional gunshots at around 2:54 a.m. coming from a nearby alley. Three individuals were found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital. Authorities say this incident also stemmed from a dispute among multiple people and remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Just minutes later, at approximately 2:58 a.m., officers heard more gunfire in the area and observed a male running behind a business in the 800 block of 6th Avenue. He was apprehended after a short pursuit and charged with wanton endangerment and fleeing.

“These incidents were the result of disputes between individuals and were not random acts of violence,” said Captain Ryan Bentley, Criminal Investigations Commander.

Police say patrols have been increased in the affected areas. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Huntington Police Department or submit an anonymous tip.
