Teen Arrested in Deadly Louisiana Mall Attack as Police Search for Second Suspect
Baton Rouge police have made an arrest in connection with the deadly shooting at the Mall of Louisiana that left one person dead and five others injured.
Police Chief TJ Morse confirmed during a press conference that 17-year-old Markel Lee turned himself in to authorities on Friday. He has been charged with first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon. Lee is currently being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
The shooting, which occurred Thursday, claimed the life of 17-year-old Martha Odom, a high school senior from Lafayette. Her death has left the community grieving as investigators continue to piece together what led to the violence.
Authorities say at least one additional suspect remains at large. Police are actively working to identify and locate others who may have been involved in the incident.
Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
